Inala Wangarra

Welcome to our Meeting Place

Inala Wangarra acknowledges and pay respects to the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul peoples, the traditional custodians of the Inala and surrounding communities.

We recognise their continuing connection to unceded lands, seas and waterways.

We honour the wisdom and knowledge that has been shared by Elders, and we are grateful for their sacrifices and contributions in preserving and protecting this sacred place.

We recognise the strength and resilience of our community members and their ongoing fight for justice and equality.

Our Vision

Our vision is for our people to be strong, prosperous and proud.
To walk tall, united in culture, spirit and identity.

Our Mission

At Inala Wangarra, our vision is clear: we aim for our people to be strong, prosperous, and proud. Rooted in culture, spirit, and identity, we believe in the inherent strengths and resources within our community and people. Our commitment to Mob extends from significant life moments to day-to-day support, enabling our community to WALK TALL - united in Pride, Self and Culture. From celebrating cultural milestones to providing support in education, job training, and navigating the criminal justice system, we provide important linkage services enabling our community members to access social, health and human services.

Our Roots: Wangarra

Our name, Wangarra, holds deep significance. Gifted to us by the renowned Elder Uncle Albert Holt of the Bidjara people, it means "One people" or "All people." This ethos echoes in everything we do, fostering unity and inclusivity.

We are the only organisation in our region owned, managed and staffed by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. People who live or are connected to our community, people who understand the culture, the reality, and the rich lived experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Inala and the surrounding suburbs.

Our Community

Inala, with its rich history, is home to the oldest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Brisbane. Despite external perceptions, our suburb is a resilient hub with a unique blend of social and economic backgrounds. Our people share a strong sense of community connection, belonging, and pride.
